• Colorado motorcycle riders that are over the age of 18 are not required to wear a helmet. It’s a well known fact that when motorcycle riders are involved in accidents they are more likely to be seriously injured. Helmets greatly reduce the risk of injury or even death. In the US only 22 states require all riders to wear a helmet regardless of age, 25 have age guidelines similar to Colorado’s helmet law that requires younger riders to wear a motorcycle helmet. While 3 states have no helmet laws at all. If you are ever involved in a motorcycle accident in Colorado, contact a skilled Denver personal injury attorney who thoroughly understands the laws, and the rights of riders.

Fox News reported this morning that the organization Mothers Against Drunk Driving is initiating an effort to connect people who have been arrested for Driving Under the Influence to people who have lost loved ones because they were involved in wrecks with drunk drivers. These connections are being made in an attempt to wake up people who drive drunk and alert them to the fact that if they continue to drive drunk they could end up killing someone.

According to their website, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (or MADD as they are sometimes called) has been fighting against drunk driving for over 30 years. They call themselves “one of the most widely supported and well-liked non-profit organizations in America.” According to their website, MADD claims to serve “a victim or survivor of drunk driving every nine minutes.”

In Colorado, someone is presumed to be driving over the influence if their blood alcohol level is above 0.08. Blood alcohol level can be measured by a roadside breathalyzer, or a person suspected of drunk driving can request a blood test. MADD reports that in the last 5 years there have been over 800 deaths in Colorado related to drunk driving, making injury as a result of DUI a serious threat to all Coloradans.

If you’re out and you think maybe you’ve had too much to drink, stop and think about the consequences of getting behind the wheel. If you’ve been injured by a DUI driver, you have rights too. Drunk drivers don’t get out of being liable for your injuries just because alcohol may have clouded their judgment.

If you have been injured by a drunk driver you may be able to collect compensation for property damage, medical expenses, therapy costs, lost wages, pain and suffering, and more.
